Around one in seven Americans use CBD-based products to soothe sore muscles and ease any discomfort they may experience throughout their body. If you’re not familiar with CBD oil uses, it can get overwhelming to figure out the terminology and how the products can help you.
What Are the THC-Free Crude Oil Uses?
One term you might’ve seen is THC-free crude oil. There is a variety of crude oil uses when it’s used in topical salves, lotions, and balms.
This guide will cover everything you need to know about CBD oil and what products you can implement into your daily routine.
What’s THC-Free CBD Oil?
Crude cannabis oil only contains CBD and is naturally THC-free. It’s extremely beneficial for those looking to try CBD but doesn’t want to use THC.
It’s referred to as “crude” because it’s the base product created during the first extraction of hemp material. It’s usually used in oral tincture products and solutions. It’s amber in color and has a stronger flavor than other distilled extracts.

What Are CBD Oil Uses?
While you can use CBD oil for anxiety, CBD oil topicals work effectively and quickly for a variety of conditions.
Acne
A CBD topical can give you relief from acne and eczema. The CBD can help reduce the appearance of blemishes and soothe inflamed, red skin. CBD has also been shown to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.
Reduce Tension and Stress
A CBD topical is another great alternative to the traditional massage oil. It helps provide relief to tense, sore, or overworked muscles. Additionally, a massage lotion infused with CBD can provide extra feelings of relaxation.
Reduce Muscle and Joint Pain
Rub a CBD topical onto troubled joints and other areas of your body. It could provide you with relief whenever and wherever you need it the most.
Make Your Own CBD Topicals at Home
Once you’ve purchased the crude CBD oil, making your own topicals is a snap. There are few different options you can go with that are very simple.
Salve
A salve is very easy to make, and it takes just a handful of ingredients. Keep in mind that they’re thicker than a lotion and can be greasy when you apply them to your skin.
Ingredients:
- One ounce beeswax
- One cup oil (olive, coconut, apricot, almond, grapeseed, etc.)
- Three grams of crude CBD oil
- Optional: essential oils
Directions:
- Heat the beeswax and oil in a double boiler, stirring well until the wax melts
- Add in the crude CBD oil and simmer over a low heat
- Stir the mixture occasionally until it’s combined, ensuring you don’t overheat it
- Remove the mixture from the heat and let cool
- Note: If you want to add in essential oils, let the salve cool first but not become a solid
- Once the salve has cooled, pour it into a glass jar with a lid and allow it to totally cool before you use
While this recipe calls for beeswax, you can use candelilla, soy, or any other alternative. You might have to adjust how much wax you use if you go with something other than beeswax.
Lotion
While the CBD lotion ingredients are similar to that of a salve, the main ingredient is water. The type of oil you decide to use will change the texture of your lotion as well.
If you want a lighter-weight lotion, go with apricot, almond, or sunflower. For a thicker lotion, use cocoa or shea butter.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup of oil (your choice)
- 3/4 cup distilled water
- Three grams crude CBD oil
- 0.5 to one-ounce beeswax
- Optional: essential oil
Directions:
- Heat the beeswax and oil in a double boiler until the wax melts, stirring often
- Reduce the heat to low, adding in the crude CBD oil
- Simmer until fully incorporated
- Remove from heat and let the mixture slightly cool
- Note: This is where you’d add in your essential oils
- Before the lotion is completely cool, add in the water slowly until it’s your desired consistency
- Pour the lotion into a container
- Note: Your lotion won’t “pump” easily out of a dispenser
Depending upon your personal preference, you can customize the lotion further with essential oils. We like lavender, rose, or peppermint.
Cream
Creams aren’t as thick as salves, but they’re thicker than a lotion. That’s due to the fact they have more oil than they do water. They’re a great choice for cold months when you need serious moisture.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup distilled water
- 3/4 cup oil
- Three grams crude CBD oil
- 0.5 to one-ounce beeswax
- Optional: Essential oils
Directions:
- In a double boiler, heat the beeswax and oil until the wax is melted
- Add in the crude CBD oil and simmer over low heat
- Remove the double boiler from the heat and let it slightly cool
- Note: Add in essential oils here
- Add in your water slowly until the cream is your desired consistency
- Note: It’ll be thicker if you use less water
As you can see, by playing with a few ingredients and using different amounts, you can make three different CBD topicals using crude CBD oil right at home.
